Join me at the Central Institute of Mental Health

Unfortunately, my last post has been a while. I wrote a brief report before Christmas from the ACNP Congress in California. Anyone who knows me understands that this is due to my transfer to the Central Institute of Mental Health (CIMH) in Mannheim, where I have been running the new Department of Molecular Neuroimaging since January 1st, 2018.

That and the fact that many other tasks still just go on so absorbed me that I did not get to write here. That should change again in the future. Today, however, I would like to recruit new employees who want to establish the department with me. You find the short profile of my department (here in German) on the website of the CIMH, more information will follow.

If you want to engage with me in one of Europe’s leading psychiatric research institutions in a stimulating environment, and you want not only do research in the field of molecular imaging on a whole new PET/MR hybrid tomograph, but are also interested in the following questions:

  • How do social and social conditions affect brain chemistry? Under what circumstances are these conditions possibly even more significant than genetic and other biological factors?
  • How do psychotropic drugs work?
  • What new therapeutic approaches can we pursue – in collaboration with the research-based pharmaceutical industry – in order to treat psychiatric disorders more effectively and with fewer side effects in the future?
  • How can psychopharmacotherapy be improved with available medicines? How can it be individualized?
  • What are the (positive and negative) consequences of long-term psychotropic drug treatment for patients?

And beyond:

  • Under what conditions does pharmacotherapy make sense at all? When are other interventions favorable?
  • Is the present trend to classify mental illness purely biologically meaningful? Are there any conceivable alternative classification systems?

then apply to me. Here is the link to the job posting. I look forward to receiving your application.
